You too can Art Journal

Today I wanted to show my daily journal in which I write my day to day things, my to-do lists, and even sketch and paint. You've seen it before but I thought I'll write about how I got to do this journal.
Some people hesitate to start a journal thinking that it's very expensive. NO, it's not. You can have one even without spending more than $10 to it. Here are some ideas with which you can start your own journaling:

1. Look out for hard bound or spiral bound books in yard sales or library book sales.
I got mine from a yard sale for 50cents-:)

This one is from a book sale in our library. Isn't it nice?I got it for a dollar and most probably this is going to be my next journal.

2. Get a set of watercolors or acrylics or even both. You don't need any expensive paints to create in your journal. For me Art journaling is a way to preserve memories, to play with colors, to create without much thinking and to experiment with new techniques or art materials.

3. Try to get a bottle of gesso. It helps you to cover the content that you don't want in your journal. Gesso is also very helpful is creating textures.

4.  Look around you will find many things that can be used as stamps. From kids' toys to old veggies that we throw away from the refrigerator can be dipped in paint and used as stamps. Our Imagination is the key factor here.

5. Pictures from magazines can be used for making collage pages. You can even find stories for your pages from old picture books and story books of your kids.

6. A pen to write and an all purpose glue or mod podge
And that is it, you are now ready to embark on  your creative journey.

If you have found these ideas to be helpful do let me know.

  1. WOW!! This was so fun to read, LOVE LOVE all the art pages. I think your tips were perfect and shows that a little bit goes a long ways when starting art journals. I'm still impressed at all you get done during the week.

Those leaves you painted in the 3rd photo are amazing and so real. They look just like the ones in my yard. All of these are GREAT!

I like all the fall theme going on the pages. What kind of pen do you use for writing? For me just a regular black pen from Walmart works best. I've bought 2 of the nicer ones from Michaels and they quit working after using them on paint.

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful art and ideas with us. LOVE coming here and being inspired.

  2. I don't like to use the bound books...I much prefer the spiral...but I never thought to use a book like you mentioned here. I can't tell you how many I have passed up that would have been perfect....will have to keep a look out. Thanks for the tip.
