Madhubani - An Indian Art

This is a painting that I did based on the traditional Madhubani art.  Originally this Indian art was done on the mud walls of huts and floors with rice flour paste and natural dyes. Women were the main artists and their subjects varied from natural objects to scenes from the royal courts and weddings.

Now Madhubani paintings are also done in hand made paper, cloth and canvas.

What I love about these paintings are the bright colors that they use to add life to their subjects and the proximity that they have with nature and natural objects.
I did this painting using Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils in my new Daler Rowney sketchbook.

My dear friend Dawn has shared a link that suggests a small way in which we can help the community at Newport Sandy Hook Elementary School. They want to create a winter wonderland for the children when they return to a new school building and for this they are planning to decorate the entire school with snowflakes. We can also help by making and sending snowflakes to them. You can find all the details and the address to which the showflakes have to be send here:  http://www.iheartnaptime.net/coffee-filter-snowflakes/
If anybody is interested please have a look at the above blog.

Thank you

  1. Hi Susan, so glad your back and sharing your art pages with us!! I LOVE LOVE this page, it's BEAUTIFUL!! You have a gift for drawing my friend, all the details and colors are amazing.

I bet it feels good to finally be home and creating a little each day now. Enjoy it and those sweet boys and magic time right now.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for mentioning the snowflakes for Sandy here, they need all the love and prayers they can get. Hard to believe it's been a week, feels longer to me. I'm so glad they came up with this idea so others can help them. Thanks for helping to spread the word.

Have a wonderful weekend and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
