Inktober for Tea

Day-5 Stack of Tea Cups

Hello dear Elizabeth and all my dear Tea friends. I'm posting this from our new home. We are almost settled and what remains to be unpacked is my art supplies, at least 80 percent of it. I never knew I had these many finished journals and supplies!

If there are regular art journalers here, can you tell me how you organize and keep your journals. Do you throw away your old journals? I guess I need to do it, atleast my writing journals or else all this clutter is going to overwhelm me. I do feel bad about taking so much space for my own stuff.

Anyways, back to art...
Recently, I heard about Inktober,  a project where artists create solely with pen and ink for the entire month of October. You can read more about it here
I'm predominantly a lover of bright, splashy colors. But my 8 year old son loves pencil sketching. So then of course I decided to join for this challenge. But I didn't want him to feel pressured to sketch for 31 days at a stretch. So, as his mother I felt I had to help him-:) We have decided to sketch on alternate days, whenever he is able to draw he will and the rest of the days I will challenge myself to create with just pen and paper.

Day-1 My sketch

Day-3 Ashish's 'Dinosaur Car' This one he did  completely from his own imagination. Dear son, you have no idea how proud I'm to see how you are evolving your own style.

Day-7 His sketch of a Ford

Day-9 'Fly High'

Day-11 Doodling

Day-13  Ford Mustang

That is all for today. Linking my post to T stands for Tuesday

I wanted to share with you all  my favorite spot in my new place. We have a separate dining area and I decorated this space with my art and art books.
Wish you all a wonderful week
Susan

  1. Hi Susan, you and your son are both very talented, love what you both have made. Glad you are settling in your new home, and that you have made a nice corner decorated with your things. I have lots of journals, but no order - sorry can't help you there! Happy T day and have a good week, hugs, Valerie

I no longer keep writing journals and didn't keep my OLD ones. But I do keep all of my art journals and round robin art journals. I love to pick one up and go through the pages now and then. They mostly are on a shelf all together. Happy T day!

  5. I´m doing the Inktober challenge, too, and I love your drawings! It´s amazing to see how much diversity there is in what people get up to with a simple pen and paper.

I have toyed with the idea of throwing out my old journals, particularly the ones from the bad years. But I will never do it. Perhaps when I get nearer the end of my life. One day, I might want to re-visit.

    Happy T-Day!

  8. You. your son, and Viktoria are both in this project, so I enjoy seeing the diversity. Of course, I adore what both of you made and the beautiful art you created from a simple black and white page.

I have what I laughingly call an art journal, but I've made mine using recycled file folders that I put in a 3-ring binder. Right now I don't have a problem, because they all fit in a single binder. At some point, I may recycle them again.

You have created a beautiful area for yourself. The tulips add that special touch, too. Thanks for sharing your cups and the other art with us for T this Tuesday. Sorry I am so late visiting. I didn't think I'd be THIS late, though.

  9. He is quite the artist, too!!
I know the feeling of being down to just unpacking your art (and craft) supplies. Just finished, myself--whew! I only had a small stack of writing journals from the last several years (9) and they are in a bookcase. Art journaling and sketching is too new to me to have even finished one journal yet--LOL! But I do have several going. I am not sure how I will store them.
Love your new area and the tulips are beautiful! Happy T-Day!

  10. fantastic ink drawings! excellent work by both of you...as for your journals, I would hate to hear that you've thrown any of them away. but it is a very personal decision. I know that my art journals have really evolved and show a big change in the way I work. I imagine that your writings would be similar. Good luck with organizing and storing them...they just might be a wonderful treasure for your son!

  11. Hi there! Sorry that I'm a day late. Sometimes I just run out of time on Tuesdays. But I hope you had a great T Day and are having a great Wednesday so far, too. I'm glad that you're mostly settled into your new place now. The dining area is beautiful.

Thanks for sharing the pen & ink sketches. The dino cars are so original and also "all boy." My son would love something like that. :)

As far as old journals and sketch books, I have thrown a few of my oldest ones away, but first I tore out and saved my favorite pages--sort of like building a portfolio of my best work. Another idea is to take photos of the pages before you throw them out. If you save the photos in a special folder (backed up) on your computer, then you still "have" them, but they're not taking up so much room in your house.

Take care and have a good week!

  12. Lovely new space you have there dear Susan and your artwork is always a delight.
Your son is such a talent too.
You might want to consider gessoing over your old written journals or gluing pages together and using them as pages for new artwork.
It would be a way to honor the past and the journey you are on.
Wishing a lovely rest of the week.

  14. How pretty this new spot is in your home, love seeing you use it for your art!! I would love a little spot like that myself with shelves to fill up. The story behind yours and your son's drawings is so sweet and special for you both. He really is so talented Susan, hope he continues to draw as he gets older. His imagination too is good.
I too went through my journals on a big clean up and only threw out one old one that I didn't care for too much. The others are packed in a big storage bin in the attic, kept a couple down here for me to enjoy but just like my scrapbooks there isn't enough room for them all. Please don't throw any away if you can help it, I like the ideas above too, taking pictures or ripping out your favorites and keeping them. The boys can look back on these and will love them.
I just found more diaries from my grandma and am soaking up each word of them so I bet they will too.

Thank you for the lovely post. xo
