DLP Oct, Inktober and Fall

 Happy Friday...

DLP Oct-3rd
Challenge -Use Deli paper
I love deli paper and so enjoyed doing this week's challenge a lot. The background is covered using painted deli paper left overs. This time I involved my 4 year old too. The fall leaves in the background were painted and created by him.  We then added gold glitter to them. Finally,  I cut and pasted them on the page.
Next I added the collage elements.I tweaked them with more colors and glitter.

Oct-10th
Challenge -Tissue paper
This is a collaborative one with my 8 year old son. I pasted various  tissue papers as the background. I then added some leftover scraps for the grass. The cars are my son's drawing. They were drawn from his imagination. He even named them as Cute Cars-:) The truck, Shop Cute belongs to a shop of the same name.

 Inktober# 13
Yet another drawing by my 8 year old. He did refer a 'How to draw Buildings' book. I think it did  come out so well.

Finally,  my Fall leaves... Each year I try to paint some of these treasures.

Welcome August

Welcome to a new month
Hello Friday and hello to all my blog friends. Life has been pretty busy this holiday but I'm managing to catch up with my blog posts.

My children love to see my nature especially animal drawings. So this week I did these fish in watercolors.

An art journal page in the making. When it is about deciding whether a page is done I go by my instinct. I feel the background is done but there is the need to add something else, maybe a quote. What do you think?

I used a variety of acrylic paints, Dylusion sprays, glimmer mists, modeling paste and stencils. Love to create such spontaneous art pages.

From today Lisa Sonora Beam's Root: 30 Day Journal Project has started. It is a free online course for 30 days. I did this last January and loved it. So you can see more Art Journaling here this month.

That is all for today. Now I'm going to try doing something based on the first prompt from Lisa's course.
Wish you all a lovely weekend.

SOC: Week-2

This week's SOC-13 was quite a challenge for me.Pink is not so much my color. Even though I love seeing it on other's art I rarely use it on mine.
But thanks Kristin, for the opportunity to play with these colors that I ended up making two pages:)

At first I created a simple page using stencils and hand made stamps. Please click on the pictures to see better. I love the colors popping out of the white page.
On washi tape I wrote, "Sometimes SIMPLICITY is all that Matters."

But somehow I didn't feel fully  content with this page. I'd wanted to do a portrait but was not sure how it will turn out. I was afraid that it won't be good enough to post, so I kept on postponing that idea.
But yesterday night I thought, at the most what will happen if my drawing doesn't do well? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Then why not try what my heart wants? I'll have fun and if it doesn't turn out well fine, but I can be happy that I at least tried. And thus this pretty lady was created.

"If you never try, you'll never know."

She may not be perfect but I love her, her blushing face, her orange hair and all the little "diamonds" that she is proudly wearing:)

I'm glad that I followed my heart and went ahead and created her. I think it's so much fun to create portraits in unreal shades and I'm going to try creating more such faces in different colors.
You can go here to see more stunning works by other artists. I'm also linking this page to PPF and Julie Balzer's  Art Journal Everyday

Thank you all for your encouragement and kind words. I love reading each and everyone of them and please do continue supporting me and my art.

Gelli plate Art Journal Pages

Some time ago I bought a Gelli plate and spent a couple of nights experimenting. Let me tell you, it is very addictive. All that resulted in so many sheets of pattern papers and then I had to force myself to stop from adding more chaos to my art stuff. So, then I started thinking of ways to use the pattern papers and of course some of them went straight into my art journal pages. These are a few of them.

I love this page as, when I started it I had no idea about how I wanted it to turn out. You can see the gelli plate prints peeping out through the other layers on both the sides of the page. I did that watercolor flowers last year and decided to use it here. One of my handmade stamp prints can also be seen among the layers of paint. I finished it off with random words and numbers that came to my mind.

This is another gelli plate print that I glued to my journal. Waiting for my heart to speak and then create some loveliness here:)
Yet another page. This is actually three different pattern papers. I tried to create the leaf impression in two ways. Love this but you know what, I don't consider it to be complete; for me a page evolves only within a long period of time. So I'm waiting for that spark within me to come and complete it in the way I want.[I might even end it up with a quote]

Ok, now for another girl that I created. I transformed one of the canvases and added a lot of texture to it as the background. But my girl didn't turn out well. She went through a lot of  painting stages with me and I guess I just spoiled her. Still I wanted to post her here as we were together in it for many hours. I will slowly recreate this canvas but for now this is what it is.

Finally, a handmade book that I did yesterday night. I need to practice sketching faces and wanted a sketchbook for that. I found an awesome tutorial here, for coptic stitch binding.
It has been a long long time since I've taken my book binding supplies and was happy to learn a new binding technique.Didn't come out perfect but the book is strong and I can use it for my requirement.
Hopefully,.this book will appear on my blog with many 'wonderful' faces.

Hope you all have a wonderful and creative weekend. Thank you for all the comments and support you give me. Sometimes when I feel that my art is not good enough, just reading these kind words  help me to rise up  and create more.

When life kicks you...

This is a page that I created with just three colors: pink, white and silver. I love this page for its simplicity and also that it was created for a specific reason.
This week's challenge by the Inspiration Avenue team is based on Breast Cancer Awareness. We have to create art using pink and white and this is my take on the challenge:

The inspiring quote says: "When life kicks you, let it kick you forward." [Kay Yow]

This challenge reminded me a few things about health. The need to exercise, to eat healthy and to go for regular check ups. Consistency is the key and that is what I lack. I admire people who regularly take walks or go to the gym.

This month I've decided to stop making winter as an excuse and to start  an exercise routine.

A new Challenge

I had so much fun doing the background of this page. It has got many layers of book pages, paint, stamps and even some stencilling.  I did a She Art Girl on top of all that.

I wrote the quote on masking tape. The quote is part of a new challenge at Artists in Blogland. It says, " Good friends are like quilts, they age with you yet never lose their warmth."

You can see the details of this new challenge here, http://artistsinblogland.blogspot.com/
